The theme for the International Youth Day 2016 is “The Road to 2030: Eradicating Poverty and Achieving Sustainable Production and Consumption “.
International Youth Day (IYD), celebrated each year on 12th August, is an awareness Day established by the United Nations. The Day aims to draw attention to a given set of cultural and legal issues surrounding youth. It was first celebrated on 12 August, 2000.
The global community has adopted an ambitious Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It is meant as an opportunity for governments, NGOs and others to draw attention to youth issues worldwide. During IYD, concerts, workshops, cultural events, and meetings involving national and local government officials and youth organizations take place around the world.
This year, the International Youth Day is about achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. It focuses on the leading role of young people in ensuring poverty eradication and achieving sustainable development through sustainable consumption and production.
The global community has adopted an ambitious Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Only very few people know about the SDGs. All of us have a responsibility to create awareness about them and strive to make their achievement a reality. We invite you to join us in celebrating this Day whereever you may find yourself Today. The youths are not just leaders of tomorrow but first and foremost leaders of Today.
